2009 Projects

We spent May 16-June 9 in Uganda and it was a tremendous success.

Kampala Library

We delivered 10 suitcases of books (nearly 500 lbs!!) to St. Andrew’s School in Kampala. Lending libraries are a new idea in Uganda so there children were excited while the school staff were gracious but overwhelmed.  A tremendous thank you goes to Jon Blanc for his help in getting the lending library up and running. (Click on the library picture to view his site!)

We also built a 2-room brick house in Kitoola, a small village near Lugazi for a lady, her two adult daughters and 6 grandchildren.  Half of their old house had fallen down during the rainy season so they were confined to one room. They were very excited to recieve a new, brick house.

Finally, we spent time doing arts and crafts and playing schoolyard games at the Children’s Village, another Youth Focus Africa Foundation project.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! We have really appreciated the generosity of our local community. We are busy planning for 2010.

About Donations

Many have asked about donating a variety of things for us to take.  Unfortunately, because of airline restrictions it is very difficult for us to take many material items but there are ways you can help:

♥Host a fundraiser
♥Invite me to speak at your church or civic groups and share our story and our vision.
♥Attend a fundraiser if you can! The money helps us respond to community needs when we see them and it helps fund projects that have a lasting impact such as last year’s pigs and latrines. We also plan to establish a scholarship fund.
♥Become a community partner! We are already planning our 2010 trip and invite you to come along.
♥Make a financial donation.  Your tax deductible donation can be mailed to

I am very impressed with the work you are doing, and I have been looking for an opportunity to help in Africa. I am on OBGYN that has just relocated to Boone NC. I will be at the armory on Saturday; maybe we could talk then.

I would love to help in any way possible. At the very least I have books that I could donate for your May trip. Not sure if you need volunteers for that trip, but I would be interested in that as well.
